What are we looking for?
We seek a Cloud Database Engineer with expertise in Amazon Aurora and GCP-hosted PostgreSQL to lead critical efforts in optimizing, scaling, and automating our cloud database infrastructure.
In this role, you will take ownership of high-scale, production-grade database environments, driving cost efficiency, performance, and operational excellence. You will collaborate closely with platform, infrastructure, and FinOps teams to ensure our cloud databases are secure, resilient, and cost-effective. You will also define best practices and automation standards through Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and partner with the application team to implement the plans.
US Eastern Time Zone preferred due to collaboration requirements with teams in Europe and India.
What will you do?
- Operate and optimize thousands of Aurora and GCP PostgreSQL DBs powering mission-critical, high-throughput workloads across production and non-production environments
- environments, supporting petabyte-scale data flows and global platform availability
- Provide guidance on schema design, query optimization, and observability for cloud-native PostgreSQL workloads.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, reduce over-provisioning, and tune configurations for maximum efficiency.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) modules for repeatable and scalable database provisioning.
- Design and implement backup, HA/DR, upgrade, and maintenance strategies for mission-critical systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and FinOps teams to align provisioning and usage with business requirements.
What skills and knowledge should you bring?
- 5+ years of experience as a DBA or Database Engineer in cloud-based environments.
- Deep hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL) and GCP Cloud SQL / for PostgreSQL.
- Strong proficiency in SQL performance tuning, query analysis, and database monitoring.
- Experience writing and maintaining Terraform code for database infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of backup/restore strategies, replication, and high availability in managed DB services.
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or equivalent) for automation and tooling.
- Experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting operational and cost data to identify inefficiencies and prioritize optimization efforts.
- Ability to use statistical and usage-based analysis to drive infrastructure decisions and focus engineering efforts where they deliver the most value.
- Experience operating databases in large-scale, multi-region environments.
- Experience driving efficient and performance database solutions techniques for cloud databases.
- Experience in detecting and fixing performance bottlenecks
- Exposure to Kubernetes-native database management or operators is a plus.
- Comfortable collaborating across engineering, SRE, and platform teams.

Base Salary Range
$148,000—$204,000 USD
