BUILDING ELECTRON AT ROCKET LAB:

Rocket Lab’s Electron team is responsible for building, testing, and launching our Electron rocket across our launch sites and test facilities in the United States and New Zealand. Electron is one of the world’s most frequently-launched rockets, and our team behind its success are diligent, move fast, and have each others’ back to deliver a reliable rocket to the launch pad time and time again.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

At Rocket Lab, use of quality parts in our products is paramount in the success of our missions. To fulfil this requirement quality control gating is of high importance.

This role is based in our Incoming Quality Control (IQC) laboratory that forms part of Supplier Quality Engineering Department. IQC Inspectors are responsible for ensuring all purchased materials conforms to our highest quality requirements through technical inspections of parts/assemblies and verification of technical documentation against engineering drawings and other applicable requirements for acceptance into flight stores for production use.

You will be responsible primarily, but not limited to inspection of mechanical/electromechanical parts through the use of various inspection tools, gauges and specialist equipment to aid you in undertaking both measurement and visual checks. The objective is to determine conformity for a range of parts and assemblies made of metals, plastics, composites, wires and cables.

Day to Day you'll responsible for:

  • Mechanical & Electromechanical Inspections: Ensure all parts meet Rocket Lab's quality standards.
  • Part Marking Efficiency: Use advanced equipment for precise traceability markings.
  • Data Integrity: Accurately log manufacturer details in our ERP system for seamless traceability.
  • Report Analysis: Thoroughly review inspection reports to confirm compliance with Rocket Lab's requirements.
  • Documentation Excellence: Maintain comprehensive and accurate records.
  • Non-Conformance Management: Swiftly create and share non-conformance tickets among relevant teams.
  • Supplier Communication: Proactively notify suppliers about quality issues to foster collaboration.

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Over 2 years in inspecting mechanical and electromechanical parts.
  • Proficient in using vernier calipers, micrometers, and various gauges.
  • Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Familiar with quality processes in a manufacturing setting.
  • Quick learner capable of operating new equipment safely.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Efficient under pressure, with excellent organizational skills and strong communication abilities.

THESE SKILLS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Understanding and experience in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in the inspection of electronic components and printed circuit boards/assemblies (PCB/PCBA).
  • Familiar with ESD practices.
  • Experience with CMM and non-contact measuring equipment.
  • Experience working in manufacturing industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical or aviation.
