About the role

Space Systems is the fastest growing part of Rocket Lab. This team develops spacecraft and components that are enabling some of the most ambitious and innovative missions space missions globally. The Director of Space Systems NZ will play a key role in delivering these programs, from world’s first private mission to Venus and scientific missions to Mars for NASA, to scaling mass production of critical components that will support the mega constellations of tomorrow.

This is an exciting senior engineering position with significant leadership influence, leading a driven, high-performing team. You’ll oversee the project management and delivery of multiple spacecraft, components, and space operations programs. You’ll work with cross functional teams to develop schedules, budgets, resource plans and lead the team to deliver on these reliably.

Reporting to the Vice President of Space Systems, you’ll be based in Auckland, New Zealand but work closely with our global Space Systems teams in the U.S. and Canada, so some travel is required. You’ll also work directly with customers and key external stakeholders, so you’ll be as comfortable in the board room as you are on the production floor with engineering and manufacturing teams.

About you

  • Eager to solve interesting, complex problems.
  • Act with speed and decisiveness to deliver to aggressive schedules on budget.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to synthesise lots of information quickly to make good decisions.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with team members at all levels is essential.
  • Business or Business Administration, Management or Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • 10+ years relevant experience.
  • 5+ years proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Understanding of space operations.
