About the Role:
The Accounting team at Planet is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant as we continue to scale and grow. The ideal candidate is proactive with a proven ability to support the month end close. The responsibilities of the Senior Accountant extend beyond journal entries and reconciliations to also include managing the financial impact of various satellites lifecycles, analysis and reporting for space systems activities and driving process improvements. To be successful in this role you have: excellent accounting knowledge, a keen attention to detail and extensive experience tackling barriers and obstacles. You are results driven and possess the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to grow Planet and achieve further company success. This role reports directly to the Assistant Controller. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to be in the San Francisco office at least 2 days/wk.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Maintain costs associated with satellites including materials, launch and build costs
- Assist in labor capitalization in various areas such as internal use of software, satellite building, and commissioning efforts
- Maintain both fixed assets and operating expense accruals related to ground station operations
- Own month-end general ledger close processes and activities including the preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules
- Analyze expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
- Develop and maintain desktop procedures for on-going accounting activities
- Assist with specific business tax filings and other compliance items
- Assist with compiling and preparing support required for annual audits
- Recommend changes and assist in driving improvements for accounting processes, documentation, and procedures
- Support Ad hoc projects and junior staff when assigned or as needed
What You Bring:
- 4-6 years of accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other quantitative major
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks
- A high degree of ownership over projects and results
- Excellent follow-up capabilities and a proven ability to progress team initiatives
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and data integrity
- Team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to collaborate across teams and learn from others to make improvements and advancements
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience with NetSuite or equivalent ERP system
- Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills
- Positive attitude and agile approach to problem solving

Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $79,300 - $106,100. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.
