Odyssey is pioneering the next frontier of artificial intelligence: generative worlds. By learning from the real-world, they’re training a new kind of visual generative model capable of generating cinematic worlds that you can direct—from scenery and characters to lighting and motion. Odyssey’s mission is to reinvent film, gaming, and more.
Odyssey was founded in late 2023 by Oliver Cameron (Cruise, Voyage) and Jeff Hawke (Wayve, Oxford AI PhD), two veterans of self-driving cars and AI. They’ve since recruited a world-class team of ML researchers from Cruise, Waymo, Wayve, Tesla, Microsoft, Meta, and NVIDIA; lead computer graphics researchers from EA, Ubisoft, and Valve; and technical artists behind Hollywood blockbusters like Dune, Godzilla, Avengers, and Jurassic World.
Odyssey has raised venture capital from GV, EQT Ventures, Air Street Capital, DCVC, Elad Gil, Garry Tan, Soleio, Jeff Dean, Kyle Vogt, Qasar Younis, Guillermo Rauch, Soumith Chintala, and researchers from OpenAI, DeepMind, Meta, Midjourney, and Pixar.
Who You Are
- You’re a researcher & engineer currently pursing a graduate research degree such as a Masters or PhD in computer science, engineering, or a similar discipline.
- You're able to define and pursue an independent research agenda to achieve reproducible, high quality research.
- You have demonstrated experience in ML research topics related to generative worlds. This is broad, covering topics such as (but not limited to):
- Generative ML (3D, video, or images)
- 3D vision, including scene reconstruction, gaussian splatting, and NeRFs.
- Motion prediction and generation.
- Computer graphics, including lighting, differentiable rendering.
- You are passionate about R&D and pushing the state-of-the-art in visual AI.
- You have the ability to bring your ideas from 0→1 with new software systems and data.
What You’ll Do
- You will conduct independent research supported by Odyssey's technical staff.
- You will have access to our computational infrastructure, data, technical mentorship and engineering support.
- At the end of the internship, you will have a piece of independent research which may be publishable. This could contribute to your thesis.
- This will be for a period of three to six months. This may be at any time of year and we are able to accommodate a variety of academic schedules.
To apply for this, please submit a single page research project proposal as the cover letter. This proposal should clearly outline a research project furthering Odyssey's goal of generative worlds.
