Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant (LA) is an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with great communication skills. Along with the duties described below, this individual performs sample receiving and accessioning, performs routine preventive equipment and instrument maintenance, and assists in the performance of high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens under the direct supervision of a CLS. The LA must demonstrate a high level of individual responsibility and accountability and possess the ability to perform to the requirements listed below. The LA must be comfortable in a rapidly evolving Biotech start-up environment.

Reports to: Sr. Manager, Clinical Laboratory Operations
Location: Redwood City, CA
Primary Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of licensed personnel, perform selected specimen preparation and similar tasks as determined by laboratory management
Receive, unpackage, and accession inbound samples per relevant SOPs; collaborate with the customer support team to obtain information necessary to complete the accessioning process
Receive, catalog, and label incoming shipments of materials and reagents in accordance with established procedures and handling requirements; communicate receipt of critical materials or reagents to appropriate laboratory personnel in accordance with established procedures
Maintain in-lab stocking levels to support day-to-day laboratory operations, including processing newly received materials upon arrival and maintaining appropriate storage conditions
Perform and document routine equipment and laboratory maintenance, including cleaning activities, per established schedules; communicate observed issues to supervisory or laboratory leadership personnel
Support regulatory compliance through adherence to laboratory policies and procedures, and accurately document work performed
Update laboratory SOPs as directed
Identify and escalate process improvement opportunities as appropriate
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory or laboratory leadership personnel

Hours and days may vary depending on operational needs
Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary.
May be exposed to hazardous materials, blood specimens and instruments with moving parts, heating or freezing elements, and high speed centrifugation
Repetitive manual pipetting may be necessary
Some lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be necessary
Position Requirements:
Have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent, as determined by HCFA under CLIA.
BS in a biological science or similar field of study, preferred.
1 year of pertinent industry experience supporting laboratory operations, preferred.
