Position Summary
As a Staff User Experience Designer at Karius, you will be at the forefront of creating a friendly and engaging experience for clinicians and internal teams across multiple platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of user experience design principles and the ability to translate complex user needs into elegant and functional designs. You will be collaborating with Product Management, Marketing, Engineering and many other teams at Karius as part of developing and maintaining a strong design language that ensures consistency across many service and product touchpoints. You will also be a key member of the Karius Experience Design Team and responsible for helping build an awesome culture of design at Karius.

Reports to: VP of Software Product Management and User Experience
Location: Redwood City, CA (Hybrid) or Remote (USA)
Primary Responsibilities
• Own all aspects of UX design at Karius as the most senior individual contributor on the team.
Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and other teams at Karius to develop and deepen knowledge of customer journeys and key customer segments.
• Design the experience for ordering, reporting, customer engagement, hospital integrations, internal software, and additional emerging opportunities.
• Utilizing tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite for creating mocks, specs, & click through prototypes for web, mobile devices, and print.
• Owning the user research process from end to end in partnership with various stakeholders and internal teams.
• Produce designs at varying levels of fidelity for internal stakeholders and for testing with customers, owning the feedback and iterative process for designs.
• Ensure that Karius’s digital experiences meet business and usability goals.
• Represent and advocate for clinician customers and patients throughout your work.
• Align design work with regulatory requirements.

Travel Requirements
• Up to 10% with an expectation that a remote hire will come to the office once per quarter.
Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in an office environment.
Position Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Human Factors, Fine Arts, Design, Behavioral Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience across UX / UI design, interaction design, and visual design for digital products.
• Experience working with product management, user research, and engineering and other departments on digital products.
• Experience with iterating on designs based on user research.
• Experience with participating in the user research process & evaluating designs.
• Fluent across design methods such as: journey mapping, sprints/workshops, personas, wireframing, high fidelity design, prototyping, sketching.
• Project management skills: ability to organize multiple projects, proactively plan, adhere to timelines. Demonstrate a creative approach to problem-solving.
• Familiarity with AI & machine learning and healthcare is desired but not required.
Personal Qualifications
• Excellent presentation skills, especially in presenting recommendations and design decisions to stakeholders. Comfortable educating stakeholders on design best practices.
• Curiosity & passion for having an impact on patients’ lives.
• Experience with service design, motion design, visual design, or other adjacent areas of design.
• Thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and prioritize effectively.
