As an Avionics Mechanical Engineer at Impulse, your responsibility will be to design and test the mechanical elements of spacecraft avionics, including enclosures and brackets, as well as more complex assemblies like mechanisms, battery packs, and optical devices.

Reporting To

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test the mechanical elements of new high-performing avionics devices
  • Work closely with electrical, propulsion, GNC, and vehicle structures engineers to execute on architectures and products that maximize overall vehicle performance
  • Analyze structural modes, thermal performance, and other critical aspects of avionics devices
  • Design products for ease of manufacture, and work with suppliers to produce components
  • Develop and document efficient build processes, work with technicians to improve instructions
  • Own the interface between avionics and vehicle structures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in CAD software with the ability to learn new tools
  • Familiarity with designing metal parts that are easy to manufacture and assemble
  • Understanding of GD&T and tolerancing
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale, and resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with mechanical design in challenging vibration/thermal environments
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience with motor design, optics, harness routing, RF, or vacuum chambers/environments
  • Experience at a startup or agile development environment
  • Experience with NX and Teamcenter
Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
