About Halter
At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.
We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

About the role...
We’re looking for a hands-on, operationally excellent Hardware Operations Lead to drive Halter’s infrastructure deployment, maintenance and servicing across Australia. This is a critical hire - you’ll be stepping into a fast-moving role building and owning operational systems, solving market-specific challenges, and developing a high-performing team around you to enable our rapid growth.
As our first dedicated fleet hire in Australia you’ll lead from the front - whether it's refining maintenance systems, training new hires, resolving complex hardware issues or rolling up your sleeves to get stuck in on a job yourself. You’ll be the link between the hardware in the field and the rest of the business, partnering closely with Headquarters in New Zealand and teams across hardware, product and deployment to ensure Halter’s hardware continues to deliver world-class performance on our customers' farms.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in high paced environments, can wear many hats, and figures things out while they go. You’ll help shape what fleet success looks like in the Australian market and play a pivotal role in scaling a product that’s genuinely changing lives.
Core Requirements:
Travel: There will be a heavy travel requirement for this role, across all active Halter states in AUS. You’ll be on the move, visiting farms, supporting deployments, and partnering with other customer facing teams.
Build System: As the first fleet hire in the market you will establish operational systems and workflows to support a growing hardware operations team.
Own maintenance: Own an end-to-end tower and collar maintenance programme across Australia, ensuring hardware is performing to a high standard.
Be hands-on: From debugging and repairing hardware to delivering towers and supporting farm deployments, you’ll jump in where needed to get things done.
Deployment assistance: Drone mapping customer farms, coverage modelling, installing towers and collaring cows on our first farms in the mainland market.
Problem-solve fast: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the field, feeding insights directly back to hardware and product teams.
Operate cross-functionally: Be the voice of fleet operations in Australia - working closely with teams across deployment, customer success, and hardware.
On-call: Be a key part of our global on-call support system, especially as we stand up the AUS function.
Build for scale: Implement systems and feedback loops to ensure our fleet team is set up for long-term success in AUS.
What You Will Bring:
A practical mindset: You’re the kind of person who gets things done, knows their way around tools, and isn’t afraid to learn on the go.
Strong organisation: You can juggle multiple priorities, keep things moving, and make smart decisions under pressure.
Hands-on operational experience: You understand the importance of systems, data and structure - and you know how to build them from scratch.
Communication skills: You’re clear, direct, and great at bringing people along for the ride.
Comfort in ambiguity: You’re joining a business scaling fast - and you’ll help create the structure, not just operate within it.
Agricultural experience (preferred): Bonus if you’ve worked in or around farm environments, or know what it’s like to be a farmer.
Culture fit: You're a go-getter, care deeply about delivering a great experience and move heaven and earth to get results.
Our Office First Approach
There’s a reason you visit your friends in person, live with your family and don’t do dinners over Zoom. Humans are wired for connection. We believe a world-class, in-person office culture is the best way for high-performing teams.
Being office first is a core pillar of our culture. We believe in-person connections are key to driving your own growth, learning, impact, and building genuine long-lasting relationships. Strong relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, and do meaningful and aligned work. We don’t like having heaps of rules or policies, but this means having strong, trusted relationships is critical.
We’re office first, not office only. This means working from the office everyday is our default setting, but we flex when we need to. We have a high-trust culture, so everyone is trusted to do what’s best for Halter.
Our office vibe is something special, it’s hard to describe until you’re here, but people at Halter who have come from fully remote or hybrid companies say they could never go back - the high energy and spectacular people they are now surrounded by everyday makes work so enjoyable. Your growth, your learning and your impact is truly unlimited here, and a big part of that comes from being together solving problems, innovating, building context, and constantly learning from each other.
