About the role
Halter’s mobile app is unlike any other app! Not just because our farmers rely on it to manage their farms 24/7, but more so because it has a deep connection to the real world. Farmers can initiate a shift in the Halter app and only minutes later cows will be guided to the chosen destination. We're looking for an experienced product designer who is passionate about solving real-world problems with innovative and beautiful designs.
You'll be working in our Animal team where we focus on animal health, reproduction and virtual fencing. Halter doesn’t just save a farmer hours of work each day, but we enable farmers to increase the utilisation of their land, to accurately feed their animals, to have healthy and productive animals and to run more sustainable farms. We’re not just changing farmers’ lives, we’re changing an industry.
You’ll be working with a talented and motivated group of people, made up of farmers, engineers and everything in between. We strongly believe in a first principles approach to problems and love to ship product at pace with an iterative approach. We build features that truly move the needle for our farmers and their cows. We aim to understand our farmers and their needs better than they do and love to spend time on farm with our farmers in doing so. Our farmers love to work with us on product innovation and as a designer, you can be sure you’ll be chatting to our farmers heaps.

Who we’re looking for

  • Relevant product experience designing mobile apps
  • Creative problem-solver who cares deeply about doing great work and with a track record of innovating on new features from initial concepts through to beautiful high-fidelity designs.
  • Able to prototype, gain feedback and insights and then iterate quickly using tools like Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (or whatever you need to get the job done)
  • Clearly communicate design work with solid rationale informed by research and data
  • Possess a strong understanding of the product development process, from discovery and problem definition to detailed UX and visual design
  • Able to work as a core member within a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate throughout the project lifecycle to produce outstanding results
  • Ability to adhere and contribute to our in-house design system (Daisy), utilising and expanding our component library and evolving the holistic design language for both mobile and web applications.
  • Approach problems with curiosity, and excitement to learn and grow your knowledge
  • Have a ‘How can we’ mindset and you'll thrive on hard problems and can adapt quickly to shifting priorities and varying volumes of work.
  • View feedback as a gift and are focused on the best outcome rather than your own ego and you positively impact the team around you.

Our Office First Approach
There’s a reason you visit your friends in person, live with your family and don’t do dinners over Zoom. Humans are wired for connection. We believe a world-class, in-person office culture is the best way for high-performing teams.
Being office first is a core pillar of our culture. We believe in-person connections are key to driving your own growth, learning, impact, and building genuine long-lasting relationships. Strong relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, and do meaningful and aligned work. We don’t like having heaps of rules or policies, but this means having strong, trusted relationships is critical.
We’re office first, not office only. This means working from the office everyday is our default setting, but we flex when we need to. We have a high-trust culture, so everyone is trusted to do what’s best for Halter.
Our office vibe is something special, it’s hard to describe until you’re here, but people at Halter who have come from fully remote or hybrid companies say they could never go back - the high energy and spectacular people they are now surrounded by everyday makes work so enjoyable. Your growth, your learning and your impact is truly unlimited here, and a big part of that comes from being together solving problems, innovating, building context, and constantly learning from each other.
