Frontier Medicines is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Principal Scientist within our Disease Biology team. The successful candidate will play a leading role in drug discovery projects from target validation to clinical proof of concept. The Disease Biology Principal Scientist is a key contributor to Frontier Medicines’ success and will be interacting with senior leaders routinely. This is an opportunity to join and work in a highly collaborative and energetic team in a startup environment with short communication lines across functions and departments.

What will you be doing?

  • Accountable functional or project team leader ensuring timely delivery of team objectives, collaborating effectively to ensure best practices within disease biology function and across teams. Influences other teams by maintaining connections across teams.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues and stakeholders; create and present research updates and provide strategic input to team/company meetings.
  • Actively clarifies goals and objectives with manager and project/functional leaders. Builds and communicates clear plans, connects team objectives with company goals and clearly communicates to team.
  • Promotes a clear vision of the overarching research strategy and empowers their projects teams to act on that vision.
  • Builds strong interpersonal relationships within a team and across teams
  • Identifies problems and proposes solutions within the team and across teams that leads to positive changes and expands influence to the company level
  • Initiates and participates in respectful and thoughtful debates around research issues.
  • Solicits feedback and implement changes in responses to feedback from all sources
  • Has the ability to diffuse tense situations, negotiate and compromise, and re- focus discussion to accomplish goals. Influences others within the company to do the same.
  • Actively champions project management processes to meet timelines.
  • Projects a can-do attitude and maintains a high level of performance in the face of stress, holds self to an exemplary standard and motivates direct reports to do the same in a supportive and positive manner.

What are we looking for?

  • Ph.D. in biology with 8+ years of relevant experience in a biotech or pharma setting.
  • Project leadership experience is required.
  • Strong drug discovery achievements at individual or team-level of delivering novel agents into clinical development.
  • Demonstrated track record of accomplishments and publications in relevant subject-matter
  • Experience in cancer biology, working in oncology drug discovery project teams, cancer cell-based assay design, assay development and drug testing.
  • Experience with mammalian tumor cell engineering and associated techniques including CRISPR and siRNA/shRNA knockdown.
  • Experience with cellular and biochemical techniques, including FACS, ELISA, immuno-blotting, and immunofluorescence/histochemistry.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and technical writing skills.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic; fast learner who can identify the core project challenges and expeditiously change course as required in a fast-paced organization
  • Exceptional oral communication and writing skills.

At Frontier we strive to build a diverse and equitable workplace. The salary range for this role is $160,000 – $190,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including candidates' qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. Frontier offers a competitive total rewards package which includes healthcare coverage, 401k and a broad range of other benefits.
