Description
The Commissioning Lead will play a key role in the construction and commissioning of surface facilities and transmission interconnections across Fervo’s portfolio of geothermal energy developments. The Commissioning Lead will oversee field execution and management of commissioning timeline, documentation, and unit handovers. Ideally, the Commissioning Lead position will have the ability to relocate to or reside at the project location in Milford, UT. Partial remote work will be considered for highly qualified candidates located withing 4-hours of the project site. The position will report to the Construction Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the commissioning of facilities and ensure all systems meet project specifications, operational requirements, and timelines.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and validation protocols.
- Lead the integration of commissioning and start-up activities with the project delivery schedule.
- Oversee the turnover from contractors to start-up team to operations, ensuring adherence to commissioning and start-up requirements.
- Coordinate internal teams, contractors, and vendors to execute key activities.
- Manage punch lists (deficiency lists) to track and drive resolutions for incomplete or insufficient work.
- Organize walkdowns and inspections to ensure compliance with commissioning protocols.
- Oversee performance testing to ensure systems meet safety, and operational performance standards.
- Coordinate troubleshooting efforts and lead issues resolution during commissioning and start-up.
- Ensure continuous and effective communication with all stakeholders, enabling alignment on commissioning activities, schedule, and outcomes.
- Report-out progress, challenges, and solutions up-line by implementing systems to track key milestones.
- Manage commissioning costs to ensure activities stay on time and on budget.
- Identify risks, mitigate issues, and ensure compliance with company protocol, SHE standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate post-commissioning support, including warranty issues and troubleshooting during initial operating phases.
- Develop and conduct training for site personnel and contractors on commissioning and start-up protocol.
- Implement management of change protocol to document deviations to scope during commissioning.
- Assist in the development and management of document control functions related to commissioning activities.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience in the energy or process sectors
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in a technical field (bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of plant systems integration and relevant standards/regulations
- Demonstrated experience with contractor and vendor management in large-scale projects
- Proven experience managing projects through multiple stages of execution
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at different stages of execution
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
- Project management or related certification (e.g., PMP or CxA certificate)
- Extensive experience in construction and/or commissioning work
- Knowledge of power plant design
- Project management experience
- Experience in technical fields related to power plant engineering and construction
Location
Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Salt Lake City, UT and Reno, NV. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular on-site attendance at the Cape Station construction site in Milford, UT during commissioning will be required.
