Description
The Development Manager will lead and manage the development processes of Fervo’s geothermal energy projects from inception through to construction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in renewable energy project development, excellent project management skills, and a passion for sustainable energy solutions. This position will report to the Head of Development and Commercial Markets.
Responsibilities
- Project Management: Lead the development of geothermal projects from initial site identification and evaluation through the start of construction; ensuring projects meet deadlines, stay on budget, and adhere to quality standards; Develop and manage early-stage project budgets, schedules, and resource plans
- Project Development: Manage all aspects of project development, including site acquisition, permitting, environmental assessments, and community engagement
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with key stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, local communities to ensure project compliance
- Cross-functional Coordination: Provide support for project teams, including technical, engineering, geophysics, and geoscience disciplines; Support origination and contracting processes and facilitate communication of key terms to support project development
- Risk Management: Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement risk management plans to minimize impact on project timelines and budgets; conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to ensure project viability
- Performance Monitoring: Provide regular project updates and reports to senior management and stakeholders
- Innovation & Improvement: Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements in geothermal energy; incorporate innovative solutions and continuous improvement initiatives into project planning and execution
- Leadership: Lead and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support as needed
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in energy, or long lead time infrastructure project development
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from inception to completion; skilled in budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Strong understanding of the regulatory and permitting process for geothermal projects
- Ability to proactively develop and implement process improvements to increase development efficiency and communication
- Proficiency in project management software and tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with geothermal energy systems and technologies
- Professional certifications in project management (e.g. PMP)
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes
