Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports Primary Care providers by delivering high-quality clinical and administrative assistance to ensure an efficient, patient-centered experience. This role includes direct patient care, rooming, assisting with procedures, performing basic lab tests, managing patient communication, and supporting daily clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities, but not limited to.
- Clinical Support
- Greet and room patients; obtain and document accurate vitals, medical history, and reason for visit.
- Perform basic clinical procedures: EKGs, injections, immunizations, wound care, ear lavage, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, and point-of-care testing (strep, flu, UA, glucose, etc.).
- Assist providers with minor procedures and examinations.
- Prepare exam rooms, stock supplies, and maintain cleanliness and infection-control standards.
- Administer medications under provider direction per clinic protocol.
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection; label and process labs.
- Ensure accurate documentation in the EMR, following clinic and regulatory guidelines.
Patient Communication & Support
- Answer incoming calls, return patient messages, and coordinate care with patients via phone, portal, or in-office communication.
- Provide patient education and instructions as directed by providers.
- Assist with referrals, prior authorizations, imaging orders, and follow-up care coordination.
- Support patients with scheduling, medication refills, and navigating clinic workflows.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage front- and back-office duties: intake, insurance verification, appointment scheduling, and check-out.
- Maintain accurate, timely entry of clinical data in the EMR.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including chronic care management and population health tasks.
- Support Primary Care panel management (e.g., outreach calls, reminders, care-gap closing).
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and clinic safety standards.
- Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with physicians, NPs/PAs, and administrative staff.
- Participate in huddles, staff meetings, and ongoing training.
- Contribute to a respectful, patient-centered culture.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA) preferred.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Experience in Primary Care or family medicine strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of EMR systems, clinical workflows, and standard procedures.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to assist with patient mobility and procedures as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, asthma, etc.).
- Knowledge of preventative screenings, immunizations, and care-gap tracking.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
