Our mission at Asimov is to advance humanity's ability to design living systems, enabling biotechnologies with outsized benefit to society. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Operations Technician to join our team at Asimov, a cutting-edge biotech company based in Boston, MA. As a key member of our operations team, you will play an essential role in supporting the day-to-day activities in our laboratory by ensuring that lab supplies, equipment, and systems are well-maintained and running efficiently. This role is 100% on-site, Monday through Friday 9am-5pm, based in our Boston, MA facility.
The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, be proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. This role is crucial to maintaining a safe and productive work environment for our research and development teams.

About the Role:

  • The Lab Operations team works together to support scientists, engineers, and researchers from many disciplines and backgrounds that are focused on genetic engineering of mammalian cells to create better platforms to produce human therapeutics. You will play an important role by:
  • Materials Management

  • Ensure the proper documentation for all incoming and outgoing shipments, including coordination with vendors and freight services.
  • Inspect and verify the condition and accuracy of shipments and deliveries.

  • Maintain optimal stock levels, track usage, and manage procurement processes.
  • Equipment Sterilization and Lab Readiness:
  • Perform autoclaving of equipment, tools, and other lab items as needed to ensure proper sterilization.
  • Monitor and maintain autoclave systems, ensuring they are functioning properly.
  • Regularly monitor and maintain cryogenic storage systems (e.g., liquid nitrogen tanks).
  • Track gas levels (e.g., CO2, nitrogen) and ensure timely ordering and delivery to prevent disruptions.
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure proper system functioning.
  • Lab Maintenance and Office Support:
  • Provide general lab maintenance by ensuring cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the lab space.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is fully functional, clean, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Assist in setup and teardown of laboratory experiments and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with compliance-related activities and maintain accurate records for audits.
  • Support lab and office personnel with general operational requests and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to after-hours alarms as needed.
  • Assist with office related chores as needed.

About You:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., biology, chemistry, laboratory science) preferred.
  • 3+ years prior experience in a laboratory or operations role within the biotech or life sciences industry.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic knowledge of lab equipment and systems, including autoclaves, cryogenic storage, and safety equipment.
  • Certification in laboratory safety or related areas (e.g., OSHA, IATA, RCRA, DOT)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. regularly.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and perform other physical tasks as required.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials in a controlled environment following safety guidelines.
We're fueled by a vision to transform biological engineering into a fully-fledged engineering discipline. Should you join our team, you will grow with a constantly evolving organization and push the frontiers of synthetic biology. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
