About the role
We are currently looking for a Strategic Commodity Manager who is passionate about utilizing robotics to improve our daily lives. As part of the Supply Chain team, you will work to develop a world-class supplier base, source new components, negotiate supply agreements, manage the ongoing supplier relationship, and oversee supplier performance (cost, quality, and delivery) to enable our business to scale. In addition, the Strategic Commodity Manager leads internal and external improvement projects. This role requires a close partnership with the R&D/engineering, legal, finance, and manufacturing teams.
About the work
- Assesses current and evolving supply dynamics in the marketplace that impact our industry and supply sources (e.g., potential commodity shortages, new trade policies, rising costs, etc.).
- Work with the leadership and peers of the Supply Chain Team to understand the sourcing needs of the business and develop strategies and plans to meet those needs (e.g., make vs. buy decisions, sole vs. multiple sources, local vs. international, etc.).
- Lead supplier selection activities for new components, supply-base diversification, etc. based on requirements for technology, cost, quality, and delivery.
- Influence supplier’s roadmaps and investments to support Agility Robotics’ business goals.
- Characterize and mitigate risk in our supply base (e.g., understand a supplier’s strengths and weaknesses, identify and plan for business continuity risks, etc.)
- Negotiate and manage complex contracts with suppliers.
- Manage overall and day-to-day relationship with strategic suppliers (e.g., price negotiation, delivery commitment slips, drops in performance, etc.).
- Monitor, analyze, and report supplier performance on quality, cost, and delivery metrics and work directly with suppliers on addressing shortfalls or making improvements.
- Develop and utilize supply chain and financial modeling tools for analyzing pricing and supply options.
- Manage the new-product-introduction (NPI) and change-management processes with suppliers.
- Support rapid prototyping requirements by developing key partnerships and agreements to provide this capability.
- Actively communicate and collaborate with internal and external partners on schedules, status, etc.
- Lead cross-functional teams to drive improvements in our supplies cost or quality.
About you
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience, preferably in engineering or technical field; advanced university degree preferred (e.g., MBA)
- Typically 6-10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain function
- Excellent understanding of global procurement processes, industry, and complex suppliers
- Proven business and supply chain modeling skills
- Experience developing and implementing strategies, plans, processes, and procedures
- Strong knowledge, use, and influence of procurement tools and applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven negotiation abilities
- Strong project management skills
- Knowledge of and experience with MRP systems a plus
