Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.
About the Role
As a Senior Staff Hardware Integration and Test Engineer, you will help drive the design, development, and execution of integration and testing processes for our humanoid robotic hardware platforms. This position requires a hands-on, technical expert who can work effectively across mechanics, electronics, and software disciplines to deliver high-quality,
reliable robotic systems. You will collaborate closely with engineers from multiple teams, including mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and manufacturing, to ensure all components of our robots meet performance, safety, and durability standards.
This position can be based either within commuting distance of our Salem, OR headquarters or remotely on the West Coast, with a preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay
Area. For remote candidates, regular travel to Salem, typically 1 - 2 weeks per month, will be required.
About the Work
● Integration and Testing: Drive the development and execution of hardware integration and bring-up test plans for humanoid robots, from individual components and sub-systems to full system integration.
● System-Level Problem Solving: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex, multidisciplinary issues that arise during integration, working across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
● Root Cause Analysis: Conduct detailed root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of hardware and system issues, working closely with design and engineering teams to implement corrective actions.
● Debugging and Troubleshooting: Actively engage in debugging and troubleshooting hardware, firmware, and software integration issues, leveraging diagnostic tools, test data, and technical expertise to resolve issues efficiently.
● Bring-Up Activities: Drive and support bring-up activities for new components, sub-systems, and full-system integration of software (SW), hardware (HW), and firmware (FW). This includes initial power-on, validation, and testing at each stage of the integration process.
● Field and Customer Support: Conduct triage and prioritization of issues encountered in the field and at customer locations, working closely with the appropriate teams to identify and resolve root causes. Collaborate with commercial teams to address customer needs, ensure timely issue resolution, and enhance customer satisfaction.
● Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of processes, rework work instructions, issue resolution guides, and troubleshooting procedures to ensure that knowledge is accessible and standardized across the organization.
● Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software teams to align design, integration, and test efforts with project goals and timelines. Partner effectively with managers and leaders across the organization to drive alignment, share insights, and support a cohesive, multidisciplinary approach to robotic systems development.
● Mentorship and Team Uplift: Actively mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and contributing to the professional growth of the team. Lead by example, up-leveling those around you and promoting continuous improvement within the integration and testing team.
● Communication and Dashboarding: Communicate the status of issues across the organization, supporting the creation and maintenance of dashboards to enhance situational awareness. Provide transparent insights on issue status, root causes, and resolution timelines to keep all stakeholders informed.
● Process Development: Establish and refine integration and testing processes, including test protocols, workflows, and documentation to ensure repeatable and robust results.
About You
● Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
● Experience: 10 + years of experience in hardware integration and test roles, ideally within robotics or other complex electromechanical systems. Experience with humanoid or mobile robotics is a strong plus.
● Multidisciplinary Skills: Deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software integration, with hands-on experience troubleshooting and solving complex system issues.
● Root Cause Analysis and Debugging: Proven experience in performing root cause analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting hardware, firmware, and software integration issues.
● Field Support Experience: Experience in triaging and resolving issues that arise at customer sites, with strong communication skills for collaborating with commercial teams and ensuring customer needs are met promptly.
● Bring-Up and Validation: Demonstrated experience leading bring-up activities for component, sub-system, and system-level integration of SW, HW, and FW.
● Documentation and Standardization: Proficiency in creating detailed documentation, work instructions, and issue resolution guides to support standardized processes and knowledge sharing.
● Cross-Functional Leadership: Strong ability to collaborate with managers and leaders across the organization to ensure alignment and effective problem-solving.
● Mentorship and Upliftment: Experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers and a proven ability to positively influence the skills and growth of teammates.
● Communication and Dashboarding: Experience in effectively communicating issue status across an organization, with proficiency in creating and using dashboards to track issues, root causes, and resolutions.
● Test Design and Automation: Experience in designing both manual and automated test systems, including scripting and programming for test automation (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
● Attention to Detail: Strong commitment to quality and reliability, with a meticulous approach to testing and validation.
Preferred to have
● Experience with robotic system architecture, including sensors, actuators, controllers, and power management systems.
● Experience with failure analysis and root cause investigation methodologies.
● Familiarity with standards and regulations for safety in robotics.
● Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and assembly.
