Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.
Responsibilities:
The Director of System Integration and Test Engineering will report to the VP of Hardware Engineering and will be responsible for leading the development of a robust Test and System Integration infrastructure for Agility Robotics engineering and manufacturing.
The Director will be responsible for the creation of testing and integration systems methodology and layout to support Agility’s manufacturing, engineering, and innovation groups.
He/She will work closely with the leaders and key stakeholders of Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software, and Manufacturing teams to drive the system integration and bring-up of Agility Robotics systems as well as the delivery of test infrastructure, development and execution across the organization.
Develop and ensure robust oversight of integration and test systems workflows, assignments and work collaboratively to develop robust processes in integration and test engineering for collaboration within all disciplines.
Monitor integration and test infrastructure deliverables and project timelines and ensure the objectives are met.
Hire, develop, mentor and structure our team of test and integration engineers. Identify and develop leaders within the team.
Promote and contribute to a safe, collaborative work environment.
About the role:
We are currently designing the next generation of Digit for commercial scale. The scale of the system and reliability that must be achieved are orders of magnitude higher than any existing bipedal platform, including our own, and the primary method that this will be achieved is by rigorous design and substantial testing.
The system test and integration engineering team owns the processes and support structure around the system integration, bring-up, debug, support, and root cause analysis of issues, as well as the design and execution of test systems and infrastructure, and therefore will be a primary focal point of the definition, integration, and validation of the product. The Director of Systems Integration and Test Engineering will be responsible for creating the vision and leading the team creating the engineering and manufacturing integration and test infrastructure and control processes within Agility.
About The Work:
Lead and cultivate a team to ensure the development of Agility’s system integration and test automation infrastructures to support and exercise Agility’s robotic systems at the component and solution levels, both during product development and manufacturing.
Work with the team to develop and maintain a deep knowledge of all subsystems used in Agility’s products and calibration and test equipment.
Collaborate closely with leadership and key stakeholders in Systems, Hardware, and Software engineering to assist in translating system requirements and engineering specifications into integration and test specs, procedures, and systems.
Drive the successful integration, bring-up, and testing of Agility robotics systems throughout the product lifecycle
Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to support the debug and root cause analysis of issues discovered in engineering, manufacturing, and in the field.
Collaborate closely with our Quality teams to develop and maintain a robust root cause analysis and debug database that serves as a source of truth for quality data and issue resolution.
Negotiate test rigor and trade-offs with multiple stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders and teams to drive innovative, elegant testing solutions that meet validate requirements.
Own hiring and performance reviews for test engineering group.
About you:
Minimum bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
Minimum 10 years of relevant technical experience in test engineering
Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership of test teams or similar test infrastructure teams.
Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
Skilled in conflict resolution, contract negotiation
Experience with test management platforms and test framework tools and systems.
Hands on experience integrating test platforms/frameworks into third party manufacturing data collection/configuration systems.
Authorization to work in the US.
Preferred to have:
Advanced degrees with professional engineering experience
Broad design experience relevant to robotics: embedded systems, high-speed signals, servo drives, Ethernet/EtherCAT, cameras, Lidar, IMU, CPU/GPU integration, etc.
Depending on experience and alignment with position requirements, a remote work configuration may be possible. In that case, travel to Agility’s design facility on a regular basis would still be required.
Knowledge of relevant technologies which may include:
Mechatronics / Robotics
Mechanical and electrical interfaces
Communication protocols
Sensors, actuators, controllers
Kinematics of mechanisms
Vision and display systems
Understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.)
Engineering verification test development and execution
Experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors
Experience with sensors such as Encoders, Hall Effect Sensors, Torque, and Load Cells
Experience with Ethernet, EtherCat, USB, and other high-speed busses
